Following 10 years in fire engineering research, design and consultancy Jeremy started JGA in September 1993. He is Group Managing Director and Senior Partner. He is involved with the work in all offices and has always had a special interest in developing new fire engineering approaches for the more challenging projects. He has created a culture at JGA based on client focus and engineering excellence.

Martin Davidson

Martin Davidson

Managing Director - Ireland

Martin joined JGA in 1994 after graduating with an MSc in Fire Engineering. Having worked in the London office for 6 years he moved to Dublin where he became Managing Director Ireland responsible for the Dublin, Galway and Belfast offices. Over the past 20 years he has been involved in many major projects in large complex buildings including offices, third level education, schools, mixed use, airports, shopping centres, atria, historic and industrial buildings. He has advised on projects in Ireland, the UK, Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and South East Asia. He has also been actively involved in fire engineering research in historic buildings, full-scale office fire tests using the Fire Research Stations full scale calorimeter rig and a shopping centre occupancy study. He has also carried out research into fire safety in schools with atria and assisted the Department of Education and Skills in drafting their “Supplementary Guide for Design Teams - Fire Strategy in Schools”.

Nick Montgomery

Nick Montgomery

Managing Director - Scotland

Nick joined Jeremy Gardner Associates in 1999. He worked in JGA’s London and Dublin offices before opening the Edinburgh office in 2004. Nick is the Managing Director Scotland and is responsible for JGA’s Edinburgh office and Glasgow office. Nick has extensive knowledge of fire safety in the design of buildings through his experience with many major building projects throughout Scotland, the UK and Internationally. Nick is a former member of the Building Standards Advisory Committee, appointed by the Scottish Government to advise ministers on the development and preparation of Scottish Building Standards. Nick worked with the Scottish Building Standards Division to develop the current Scottish Building Regulations guidance documents that were brought into effect in October 2010 and October 2013.

Gordon Garrad

Gordon Garrad

Managing Director - England

Gordon joined Jeremy Gardner Associates in 1999 after 12 years in applied research at the Building Research Establishment. He specialised in research into fire growth and smoke movement in buildings and is co-author of the BRE guide to smoke control, BR 368. Since joining Jeremy Gardner Associates Gordon has continued to contribute to the development of British Standards and guidance on fire engineering. As Managing Director of JGA’s London and Manchester offices Gordon has an overview of a large number of projects in the UK and overseas, including Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He has developed fire strategies for many complex buildings, including airports, regional shopping centres and large mixed use city centre regeneration schemes.

Paul Macken

Paul Macken

Director - London

Paul joined JGA over 16 years ago and is now one of the partners. He has extensive cross-sector experience ranging from retail, offices, sports arenas and stadia, residential, transport and mixed use schemes. Paul relishes the challenge of developing innovative fire engineering solutions for challenging and complex projects both in the UK and Internationally. Paul has a diverse project portfolio. He was the Director responsible for most of the JGA work in and around the Olympic Park at Stratford. This included all thirteen buildings comprising the 2012 Olympic Village, the Olympic Basketball venue, well as Westfield Stratford City. He has extensive experience in transport having worked for several years on projects at Gatwick and Heathrow airports. International work includes Westfield Milan and Tres Aguas in Madrid.

Tony McParland

Tony McParland

Director - Belfast

Tony joined Jeremy Gardner Associates in January 2003 with an MSc in Fire Engineering. He is the Director in charge of JGA’s Belfast office and is responsible for business development in Northern Ireland. Tony began his career in JGA’s London office and worked in Dublin before he opened JGA’s Belfast office in 2006. During his time with JGA Tony has advised on projects throughout the UK, Ireland and Internationally. He works between JGA’s Belfast and Dublin offices but due to his significant experience and expertise he regularly leads projects in all JGA offices. Tony has spoken at conferences and given lectures on fire engineering throughout the UK and Ireland. He has assisted in training local authorities in fire engineering techniques and also lectures part-time at University of Ulster.

Nick Harvey

Nick Harvey

Director - London

Nick joined JGA as a graduate in 2002, and became a Director in 2014. Nick is project director for numerous retail, offices, residential, schools, hotels and mixed use schemes throughout the UK. Previous projects have included Westfield Stratford, 2012 London Olympics Athletes Village, and Gazprom Headquarters, St Petersburg. Nick has spoken at several conferences and has lectured on fire engineering throughout the UK.

Nick has carried out a computational fluid dynamics led research project to analyse the effect of a retail mezzanine on smoke flow out of the unit. The knowledge gained from this study has increased understanding of smoke control in enclosed shopping centres.

Ben Atkinson

Ben Atkinson

Group Technical Director - London

Ben joined Jeremy Gardner Associates in July 2001 after working in research and testing of fire safety products and became Technical Director in January 2015. Ben is a Chartered Physicist and a member of the Institution of Fire Engineers. As an Technical Director Ben is responsible for leading projects and for the development of the fire strategies for a wide range of complex buildings of all types. Examples of recent projects for which Ben developed the Fire Strategy include the Trinity Leeds shopping centre which opened in 2013 and the refurbishment of St Pancras Chambers. Ben has a particular interest in international projects, having worked on projects in Abu Dhabi, Malta, Qatar and Ukraine. As part of Jeremy Gardner Associates’ internal research programme during 2009 and 2010 Ben reviewed published data on smoke production from fires and the effect smoke has on visibility during the evacuation of buildings. He developed a means of calculating visibility from available data and his conclusions have been adopted for Jeremy Gardner Associates’ fire engineering design.

Craig Milne

Craig Milne

Technical Director - Edinburgh

Craig joined Jeremy Gardner Associates in 2005 initially in London before joining the Edinburgh team in 2006. Craig was made Technical Director in January 2015. Craig’s major projects have benefited from a significant level of fire engineering input and he is responsible for shopping centres, airports, schools, universities, offices, historic, residential, mixed use and leisure buildings. A main area of interest is developing innovative fire engineering solutions that allow both design and cost aspirations to be realised for large complex developments. Current and recent projects where Craig has lead our fire engineering input include; Buchanan Quarter, Glasgow. 3 to 8 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh, Queen Street Station Redevelopment, Glasgow. Silverburn Phase 3 Extension, Glasgow and Inverness Royal Academy.

Gordon Morley

Gordon Morley

Technical Director - Galway

Gordon joined Jeremy Gardner Associates in April 2005 after graduating with an MSc in Fire Engineering. He began his career in JGA’s Dublin office and has also worked in our London office. In 2008 he moved to the JGA Galway office and is responsible for business development in the West of Ireland. He now works between JGA’s Galway and Dublin offices. One of Gordon’s main interests is the development of bespoke and cost effective fire engineering solutions for existing buildings. Projects where Gordon has lead our fire engineering input include; St. Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin; Ashford Castle Hotel, Co. Mayo; Dublin Human Biology Building; NUI Galway; Eyre Square Centre, Galway and Library & Cultural Centre, Dun Laoighaire.

Henry Wilkinson

Henry Wilkinson

Technical Director - Manchester

Henry joined JGA in 2006. After eight years in London, working on many of the largest and most high-profile building projects in the UK, Henry opened JGA’s Manchester office in 2014. Under Henry’s leadership JGA’s market share in the region has grown rapidly and JGA are now the first choice for many of the largest developers and architects in the North of England.

Henry and his team work on all building types. Projects include key developments at MediaCityUK and Liverpool Waters, Manchester’s Corn Exchange, the Anfield Stadium expansion, the redevelopment of Barton Square at the intu Trafford Centre, The Broadway in Bradford, and the Wellington Place office development in Leeds. Henry has also worked on a huge number of residential buildings across the North, totalling several thousand flats.

Eu Jin Teh

Eu Jin Teh

Technical Director - Glasgow

Eu Jin joined Jeremy Gardner Associates in 2006 and is a Technical Director and Chartered Engineer. Eu Jin opened JGA’s Glasgow office in January 2015 after working in the Edinburgh office for over 8 years. Eu Jin has extensive knowledge of fire safety in the design of buildings through his experience with many major building projects throughout Scotland and the UK. New City of Glasgow College Campuses, Technology Innovation Centre with the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Braehead Shopping Centre, and The Grande Office Building in Aberdeen are amongst the many projects where Eu Jin has successfully used innovative fire engineering solutions to add value and to solve fire engineering challenges for these complex projects.
